Wicca is a Nature loving religion, that puts emphasis on
honoring both The God and The Goddess, and living in harmony with all things in
the Universe. I practice Wicca as a solitary practitioner. This means I
am not a member of a coven of Witches that I practice rituals and celebration
with. Eclectic Wicca is becoming one of the most widely practiced forms of the
craft in the world today. Most have
nothing against a coven but feel more comfortable practicing in their own way
with their own ideals.
There are three basic tenants that a Wiccan must follow. They are The
Charge of The Goddess, The
Charge of The God, and
The Wiccan Rede.
These are the "written guidelines" for most Wiccans.
Wiccans also celebrate eight Wiccan Holidays called Sabbats. They
are celebrated throughout the year usually at the change of seasons. They in
themselves represent the Wheel of the Year or the cycle of Nature to us.
Wicca embraces all life, no matter what the race or religion.
We recognize the fact that everyone has their own beliefs and we do not mock
those who worship their "all powerful being" differently than us, nor
to we look down upon other religions. "You would be very hard pressed to
find a Wiccan anywhere who would blindly follow anyone else. Wiccans are
historically very independent people who seek truth from within through rituals,
mediation, magick, studying, and communing with nature. Wiccans respect the
right of everyone to worship in their own way. We do not feel that Wicca is the
only way -- only that it is our way."
Wicca is not a "cult" nor does it have
anything to do with Satanic worship. The whole concept of a supreme evil spirit
is alien to us. Most believe that
there are both good and evil sides to all life, therefore why expect any more
(or less) from the Goddess and God? A true Wiccan does not believe in
"Satan" or black magick. We believe in the three fold law which states
anything sent out will come back three times as strong as it was sent. Unfortunately because of
the media and our
entertainment industry, most of the non-Wiccan population has been lead to
believe these things about us.
One of the most wonderful things about Wicca is that it is "customizable." If you visit 20 Wiccan pages in one day and read all the information there is to find you will find a large amount of difference from page to page, belief to belief. There are many different "sects" to this religion. I am of the sect called "eclectic."
Eclectic is most easily described as not following any one set of beliefs, but rather to formulate
one's own opinions based on the different aspects of each. As long as one follows the Wiccan Rede the rest can differ quite largely.
An it harm none, do what ye will.
